ViETNAM WAR

The height of American protest was the 1960's and 1970's, and many of the protests were centered around the Vietnam War. America was getting restless and sick of the war. The war did not get good publicity and it lacked support from home. Most of the protesting came from America's youth. They fueled the protesting of the country. After the Kent State shootings in 1970, American support of the Vietnam war went from low, to almost none. The public was sick of the government saying that they were close to peace, and they just needed to send more troops. Nixon's decision to send more troops into Cambodia angered the people, because they saw this as expansion of the war and were upset with the insincere words that the President seemed to keep feeding them.
The Tet Offensive was covered by the media, so that the American people at home saw the apparent loss at the Tet Offensive. The president was telling the people that they were winning the war, and when they saw this footage, they thought that they were losing the war. They felt lied to and hated the fact that the war was being dragged on with hardly any success.
The Vietnam War was a large reason for the youth protesting the government in the 60's and 70's. One thing that they hated was the fact that the drafting age was 18, but the voting age was 21. They felt they had the right to vote for who would be making such huge, life-changing decisions for them.
